Reception of Panagia Gerontissa in Lemnos

With deep reverence and heartfelt emotion, the island of Lemnos welcomed a copy of the sacred icon of Panagia Gerontissa, originating from the Holy Monastery of Pantokrator on Mount Athos.

The arrival took place on Saturday afternoon at the port of Myrina, where the icon was brought by sea aboard a Hellenic Coast Guard vessel, accompanied by local fishing boats in a solemn and celebratory escort.

The holy icon was received with ecclesiastical honor by hierarchs of the Church, led by the Metropolitan of Lemnos and Agios Efstratios, together with clergy of the local Metropolis. Other bishops were also present, adding to the significance of the occasion.

Representatives of local authorities and public officials attended the reception, while a large number of faithful gathered to welcome the icon with devotion and spiritual joy.

The icon was then placed for veneration at the Metropolitan Church of the Holy Trinity in Myrina, where it remains as a sacred spiritual treasure, offering consolation and blessing to the faithful of the island.
